
Bruce has been involved with Beth Hillel since 1969 and has held numerous positions in the congregation, including Congregation President, Executive Vice President, Ritual Vice President, Ways and Means Vice President, Chairman House and Grounds Committee, Adult Education Instructor, Sheliach Tzibbur (Leader of Religious Services), Congregation Choir.
Bruce Hershman’s professional career included numerous areas in the real estate and construction fields. A professional engineering consultant with extensive experience in residential, commercial and industrial property development and improvement, including both design and construction, land development, property purchases and sales.
After retiring from the construction industry, from 1998 to 2002 Bruce assisted the Executive Director of Beth Hillel in setting up new data information processing system, including training of all employees utilizing the system, as well as supervising all accounting procedures, both receivables and payables, building management, scheduling, maintenance, mechanical operations, and programming and coordinating special events. After another brief stint in the construction industry and a second retirement, in 2009, Bruce has stepped into the position of Executive Director of BHCBE.
Bruce has also served in the Jewish Community as a Vice President of Midwest Region of The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, on the Board of Directors of National Board of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, Solomon Schechter Day Schools, The Community Mikvah of the Conservative Movement. He is also an active member of the Jewish Community Singers of Greater Chicago (Kol Zimrah).
