Shalom! My name is Rutie Nakar and I am the Kitah Dalet teacher at the BHCBE Academy. Just so you get a better sense of who I am, I’d like to share a little bit about who I am and what I love about teaching. I was born in Baghdad, Iraq which I left when I was only three months old. My parents left the country for Israel with only took 3 suitcases, my older sisters and myself in a basket.
In Israel we lived in a settlement camp in a tent for 2 years. I was a high school teacher in Israel and a counselor. I also worked with foreign students in other countries. I came to the United States twenty eight years ago and married my husband Meir Rotstein and we have 2 boys (twins). Michael is serving in the Israeli army and Uriel is a music teacher in New York. My son Uriel is a 3rd generation educator, following in my footstep as well as of my mother was a teacher in Baghdad and Israel.
I love America and Israel. During the day, I work in a non for profit organization getting services for people with mental disabilities. I enjoy this job and get a lot of satisfaction from helping families.
For me, teaching is a calling. It is even more meaningful for me to teach here at the Academy where a lot of students want to learn how to speak Hebrew and strengthen their Jewish identity and culture. I love children and I love teaching them.
As you know, we are starting every Sunday with T’filot at 9 AM in the sanctuary. I encourage you to come with your children and to join us!
